CONTEUDO:
Spotify is introducing a new verification system to help listeners distinguish between authentic human musicians and the growing volume of AI-generated content flooding the platform. The streaming giant is rolling out a “Verified by Spotify” badge, featuring a green checkmark, which will appear on artist profiles and within search results over the coming weeks.

Criteria for Verification
To qualify for the new badge, artists must demonstrate a genuine presence both on and off the platform. Spotify will evaluate several key indicators, including:
- Evidence of concert dates and merchandise sales.
- Active and linked social media accounts.
- Consistent listener engagement and activity over a sustained period.
Profiles primarily dedicated to AI-generated music or synthetic personas are explicitly excluded from receiving the badge. Additionally, Spotify is prioritizing creators who contribute to music culture over “functional music” accounts, such as those providing algorithm-optimized background noise or focus playlists.
Addressing the AI Surge
The move follows industry-wide concerns regarding the explosion of unauthorized AI-generated music. Recently, Sony Music sought the removal of more than 135,000 AI-generated songs that mimicked its artists. Meanwhile, competitor Deezer reported that AI-generated tracks now account for 44% of daily uploads on its service.
At launch, Spotify expects over 99% of artists that listeners actively search for to receive verification. For those who do not yet meet the strict criteria, the company is testing a new beta profile section that showcases career milestones, release history, and touring schedules to highlight authentic activity.
This initiative complements other recent security measures, such as the “Artist Profile Protection” feature currently in beta. This tool allows artists to review and manage releases before they appear on their profiles, providing a necessary safeguard against impersonation.
According to the company, the verification program will be an ongoing effort. The absence of a badge does not preclude an artist from being verified in the future, as Spotify aims to foster long-term, meaningful connections between fans and human creators.
