Spotify Tests Tool to Block AI Slop on Artist Profiles
Spotify is rolling out a new beta feature dubbed “Artist Profile Protection,” designed to give musicians greater authority over the content displayed on their official profiles. This move addresses the rising challenge of unauthorized AI slop and misattributed tracks that have increasingly plagued streaming platforms.
The tool functions as a gatekeeper, allowing artists to review incoming music before it is published on their pages. By enabling this setting, creators can choose to approve or decline any release associated with their name. Only tracks that receive explicit approval will appear in their catalog, impact their performance statistics, or be integrated into listener recommendations.

Why the Change is Necessary
Spotify acknowledged in a blog post that the rise of AI-generated content has exacerbated issues with flooding music streaming platforms. Beyond AI, the platform noted that artists frequently face issues due to:
- Metadata errors during the distribution process.
- Name confusion among artists with identical or similar monikers.
- Malicious actors intentionally misattributing tracks to high-profile pages.
The company stated that protecting artist identity has become a top priority for 2026. This initiative arrives shortly after Sony Music revealed it had requested the removal of over 135,000 AI-generated songs that were impersonating its roster of artists.
How the Beta Works
Participation in the beta is currently targeted at specific groups. According to the company, the feature is most relevant for those who:
- Have suffered from repeated instances of incorrect music attribution.
- Share a name with other artists, leading to frequent errors.
- Require stricter oversight of their digital catalog.
For those enrolled in the test, the configuration is available within the “Spotify for Artists” settings on both desktop and mobile web. Once activated, the system triggers an email notification whenever new music is submitted under the artist’s name, allowing for immediate review before the content goes live.
