The Pokémon Company officially addressed the controversy surrounding the viral hit Palworld on Thursday, stating it has not authorized the use of its intellectual property or assets by the developer, Pocketpair. The organization confirmed it “intends to investigate and take appropriate measures” to address potential infringements.

This statement marks the first formal acknowledgment from the company regarding the survival game, which has experienced unprecedented growth since its January 19 launch. The title has already sold more than 8 million copies in under six days, a pace that outstrips many major AAA releases.

Growing Scrutiny Over Design Similarities

Despite its commercial success, Palworld has faced significant backlash from fans of the Pokémon franchise. Critics have pointed to what they describe as an “uncanny resemblance” between the creatures in the new game and established Pokémon designs, leading to widespread accusations of plagiarism across social media.
