TikTok Adds Apple Music Integration for Full Song Playback
TikTok is deepening its integration with the music industry by launching a direct playback feature for Apple Music subscribers. Announced on Wednesday, the update allows users to listen to complete tracks without navigating away from the social media platform.

When encountering a track on their “For You” feed or within a Sound Detail Page, Apple Music subscribers will now see a “Play Full Song” button. Tapping this icon triggers an embedded Apple Music player, enabling seamless listening. This functionality is powered by Apple’s MusicKit, ensuring that playback occurs through the streaming service’s infrastructure and counts toward official streams.
Expanding Social Music Experiences
Beyond individual listening, the partnership introduces “Listening Party.” This feature enables fans to gather in real-time to hear songs from their favorite artists. These sessions include interactive elements, allowing listeners to engage directly with one another and the artists themselves, fostering a more collaborative environment for music consumption.
The rollout for these new features is scheduled to reach users worldwide over the coming weeks. Currently, this direct playback capability is exclusive to Apple Music; TikTok does not support full-length streaming from other services like Spotify.
TikTok’s Evolution in Music Discovery
The move represents a strategic pivot for TikTok, which has long served as a primary engine for viral music trends. After an unsuccessful attempt to operate its own dedicated streaming service, the company has doubled down on its role as a discovery hub that feeds traffic into established music platforms.
This integration complements existing tools aimed at bridging the gap between social video and streaming libraries, such as:
- Add to Music App: Allows users to save discovered tracks directly to their preferred streaming library.
- Share to TikTok: Enables users to push tracks from Apple Music or Spotify directly into the TikTok creation flow.
- TikTok for Artists: A data-driven dashboard launched last year that provides labels and musicians with insights into how their tracks perform and resonate with audiences on the platform.
By streamlining the path from discovery to deep listening, as reported by Rolling Stone, TikTok continues to influence how the industry manages artist promotion and fan engagement.
