Tubi Debuts First Native Streaming App for ChatGPT

Tubi has officially integrated its streaming platform into ChatGPT, marking a significant milestone as the first major service to deploy a native app directly within the AI interface. This move aims to simplify content discovery for the platform’s vast library, which currently spans over 300,000 movies and television episodes.

Tubi is the first streamer to launch a native app within ChatGPT

While industry giants like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have previously tested AI-driven recommendation engines within their own proprietary ecosystems, Tubi is shifting the strategy by embedding its service directly into a platform where users already congregate for information.

How the Integration Works

To utilize the new feature, users must install the Tubi application via the ChatGPT app store. Once installed, the process is straightforward:

  • Type “@Tubi” in any ChatGPT prompt to activate the tool.
  • Input natural language requests, such as “a thriller for girls’ night” or “something funny.”
  • Receive curated suggestions tailored to specific moods or preferences, with direct links to the content on Tubi.

This development follows a strategic evolution for the Fox-owned service. In 2023, Tubi experimented with “Rabbit AI,” a ChatGPT-powered recommendation tool housed within its own mobile app. That feature was eventually discontinued, leading the company to pivot toward a model that meets users on external platforms with massive reach—specifically, ChatGPT, which recorded 900 million weekly active users as of February.

Addressing the Discovery Challenge

As competition for viewer attention tightens, streaming platforms are increasingly struggling with content discovery. With an overwhelming number of titles available across the digital landscape, Tubi is betting that AI-assisted navigation will help retain its base of over 100 million monthly active users.

The integration aligns with a broader trend of companies leveraging OpenAI’s developer framework to extend their utility. Since the rollout of the app store in October, various organizations—including Booking.com, Canva, Spotify, and SeatGeek—have launched native integrations to streamline user experiences.

Beyond its AI initiatives, the company is also focusing on original content production. Tubi recently introduced the “Creatorverse Incubator,” a program designed to provide funding and promotional support for emerging creators to develop exclusive shows for the platform.
