WhatsApp Adds AI-Generated Replies and Photo Editing Tools

WhatsApp is introducing a major update to its messaging platform, headlined by an AI-powered feature that suggests draft responses based on the context of your ongoing conversations. This expansion of the app’s “Writing Help” tool aims to streamline communication by helping users refine their tone and phrasing directly within the chat interface.

WhatsApp can now draft AI-generated responses based on your conversations

Expanding AI Capabilities

First launched in August, the “Writing Help” feature previously focused on proofreading and rephrasing existing text. According to a blog post released by the company, this latest enhancement allows the app to generate intelligent reply suggestions. Meta maintains that these interactions remain private, even when utilizing the AI-assisted drafting tools.

To access these new AI features, users can tap the chat bar, select the stickers icon, and choose the pencil icon featuring the sparkledust symbol. Beyond text, Meta AI now allows users to edit photos directly inside a chat. These tools include capabilities such as removing background distractions, altering the visual style of an image, or changing the background entirely.

Storage and Utility Updates

The update also addresses common user pain points regarding device storage and multi-device management:

  • Storage Management: Users can now identify and remove specific large files within individual chats without needing to delete the entire conversation history.
  • Multi-Account Support: iOS users now have the ability to keep two WhatsApp accounts active simultaneously, aligning the iPhone experience with the existing Android feature.
  • Chat Migration: The platform has improved its support for transferring chat histories, including moves between iOS and Android devices or within the same operating system.
  • Enhanced Stickers: The app will now offer sticker suggestions as users type emojis, providing a quick way to swap simple icons for more expressive graphics.

These features are currently in the process of rolling out and are expected to be available to the entire user base in the near future.
