WhatsApp Adds Member Tags and Event Reminders to Groups
WhatsApp is expanding the functionality of its group chats with a suite of new tools designed to improve member identification and scheduling. The update, announced on Wednesday, introduces customizable member tags, dynamic text stickers, and automated event reminders.

Enhanced Group Interaction
The most significant addition is the introduction of member tags. Users can now assign specific labels to their profiles within different groups, providing immediate context regarding their role or identity. For instance, a user might identify as “Goalkeeper” in a sports team chat, while appearing as “Anna’s Dad” in a family group.
To streamline organization and communication, the platform has also implemented the following features:
- Event Reminders: Users can now attach custom notifications to event invites, ensuring group members receive timely alerts for scheduled activities.
- Text Stickers: By utilizing the Sticker Search function, users can transform any typed word into a custom sticker, which can then be saved directly to their personal sticker collections without requiring them to be sent in a conversation first.
Expanding Group Capabilities
These updates follow a series of recent enhancements aimed at positioning WhatsApp as a more robust tool for community and group management. The platform has steadily increased its feature set over recent months, already supporting high-definition media sharing, screen sharing, voice chat capabilities, and the ability to transfer files as large as 2GB.
