Wispr Flow Brings AI Dictation to Android With New App

Wispr Flow, the startup behind the AI-driven dictation service, expanded its reach today by launching a dedicated application for Android. This release follows the company’s earlier moves into the desktop market for Mac and Windows, as well as its iOS debut in June 2025.

Unlike the iOS version, which operates primarily through a specialized keyboard, the Android iteration utilizes a floating bubble interface. Users can interact with the app by holding the bubble to dictate or tapping once to toggle the recording process on and off. The system automatically refines speech by removing filler words and applying context-aware formatting to the generated text.

Performance and Feature Enhancements

Alongside the Android launch, the company announced an infrastructure overhaul that claims to improve dictation speeds by 30%. The software is capable of operating across various apps and provides translation support for more than 100 languages.

Tanay Kothari, co-founder and CEO of Wispr Flow, suggested that the flexibility of the Android platform was instrumental in this development. “Android finally gave us the freedom to build the voice experience we always wanted. Only when the platform gets out of the way can we truly expect voice to replace typing on mobile,” Kothari stated.

Supporting Hinglish

Beyond the platform expansion, the startup is introducing a specialized model for Hinglish—a blend of Hindi and English. This feature is designed for users who communicate in mixed-code speech, allowing for transcription that mirrors natural conversation rather than relying on traditional Hindi script.

“If you’re someone like me, English and Hindi weave together when I’m chatting with family and colleagues back home. This is one of those times when I just had to build something for me: the first voice model to actually support transcription in Hinglish instead of traditional Hindi script,” said Kothari.

Market Standing and Growth

Wispr Flow has emerged as a significant player in the AI dictation space, backed by substantial investor interest. Key financial milestones include:

• A $30 million funding round in June led by Menlo Ventures.
• A $25 million follow-up round in November led by Notable Capital.
• A total of $81 million raised to date, with a valuation reaching $700 million according to industry sources.

The startup reports that early testing has already seen significant usage, with participants dictating over 1.3 million words in English within just a few days. While the dictation app market is becoming increasingly crowded, Wispr Flow joins a select group of providers currently available on Android, following the recent launch of competitors like Typeless.
