Roblox Developer Zander Brumbaugh Raises $3.7M for Gamebeast

Zander Brumbaugh, a 22-year-old computer science graduate student, has secured $3.7 million in pre-seed funding for his startup, Gamebeast. The company aims to professionalize the game development ecosystem by providing sophisticated infrastructure for Roblox creators and beyond.

Brumbaugh’s journey into the industry began at age 12 on the Roblox platform. His self-developed titles eventually achieved significant scale, amassing over 500 million visits and reaching peaks of 80,000 concurrent players. Despite this success, he identified a critical technical gap while consulting for major entertainment firms like Netflix, Paramount, and NBCUniversal.

Closing the Tooling Gap

According to Brumbaugh, while traditional entertainment studios relied on standardized data-informed decision-making tools, the Roblox ecosystem lacked comparable infrastructure. He launched Gamebeast to address these specific needs, focusing on:

  • LiveOps capabilities that allow for game modifications without requiring new software releases.
  • A/B testing frameworks to optimize player engagement.
  • Real-time analytics for data-driven development.

The platform currently serves over 40 game developers. Beyond the gaming sector, the startup is exploring potential applications for its no-code infrastructure within the U.S. defense industry.

Scaling and Future Vision

The latest funding round was led by J2 Ventures, with additional backing from a16z Speedrun, The Mini Fund, and Spaceport CEO Le Zhang. Brumbaugh secured the investment following his participation in the a16z Games Speedrun accelerator program.

“Gamebeast’s vision for the future of gaming is both innovative and deeply connected to the evolving needs of players,” said Christine Keung, general partner at J2 Ventures. “We anticipate that all multiplayer games will be AI-enabled and optimized in real-time.”

As Brumbaugh balances his role as a CEO with his master’s degree studies at the University of Washington, his team has grown from four members to 16. The new capital will be utilized to broaden Gamebeast’s product feature set and expand its service support to additional gaming platforms.
