Acer Unveils Massive Nitro Blaze 11 and Blaze 8 Handhelds

Acer officially entered the competitive handheld gaming market at CES 2025, revealing two distinct devices: the oversized Nitro Blaze 11 and its more compact counterpart, the Nitro Blaze 8. Both units are scheduled for a retail release during the second quarter of 2025, with the larger model commanding a premium price point.

The headline-grabbing Nitro Blaze 11 distinguishes itself through sheer scale, featuring a massive 10.95-inch display. The device tips the scales at over 1kg, or approximately 2.3 pounds—a weight comparable to stacking two 11-inch iPad Air tablets. To manage this substantial form factor, Acer opted for a design with detachable controllers, echoing the flexibility found in the Nintendo Switch or the Lenovo Legion Go.

Internal Hardware and Specifications

Under the hood, both the Nitro Blaze 11 and its smaller sibling share core performance components. They are powered by the AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS processor—a chip originally engineered for laptop architectures—paired with integrated AMD Radeon 780M graphics. Users can expect 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 2TB of internal storage.

The devices run on Windows 11, supplemented by Acer’s proprietary gaming hub software. Connectivity options include two USB-C ports (one with USB 4 support), a standard USB Type-A port, and a microSD card slot for expandable storage. The Nitro Blaze 11 features a high-resolution 2560×1600 display with a 120Hz refresh rate, while the Blaze 8 utilizes an 8.8-inch panel with a 144Hz refresh rate.

Market Positioning and Pricing

While the internal specifications are nearly identical, the physical design choices create two distinct user experiences. The Nitro Blaze 8 lacks the detachable controller functionality of the larger model, opting for a fixed, more traditional handheld configuration.

  • Nitro Blaze 11: Priced at $1,099, features a 10.95-inch 120Hz display and detachable controllers.
  • Nitro Blaze 8: Priced at $899, features an 8.8-inch 144Hz display with a fixed controller design.
