Amazon Brings Alexa+ to the Web With New Alexa.com Launch

Amazon is expanding the reach of its AI-powered digital assistant, Alexa+, by launching a dedicated web interface. Announced at the opening of CES 2026 in Las Vegas, the new Alexa.com portal is currently rolling out to Early Access customers, signaling a shift for the assistant from hardware-exclusive to a platform-agnostic service.

A Shift Toward Conversational AI

While Amazon has sold over 600 million Alexa-enabled devices, the company views web and mobile accessibility as critical for future competitiveness. The new website mirrors the functionality of existing AI chatbots like Gemini or ChatGPT, allowing users to handle complex queries, content creation, and travel planning directly through their browsers.

Complementing the web launch, Amazon is updating its mobile app to prioritize an “agent-forward” experience. The app’s homepage now centers on a chatbot-style interface, relegating secondary features to the background to emphasize direct interaction.

Targeting the Family Ecosystem

Amazon aims to differentiate Alexa+ by positioning it as a central hub for household management. Daniel Rausch, VP of Alexa and Echo at Amazon, notes that the assistant’s value proposition lies in its unique integration with home life.

“Seventy-six percent of what customers are using Alexa+ for no other AI can do,” Rausch said in an interview. He pointed to specific use cases, such as uploading a photo of a family recipe and receiving real-time, hands-free cooking guidance, as a key differentiator.

The platform is designed to handle a variety of domestic tasks:

  • Smart home device control
  • Calendar and to-do list management
  • Grocery list integration with Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods
  • Personalized entertainment recommendations for family movie nights
  • Scheduling coordination for appointments and school events

Adoption and Feedback

Amazon claims that tens of millions of users now have access to Alexa+, with engagement levels significantly higher than the original version. According to Rausch, users are engaging in two to three times more conversations, shopping three times more frequently, and utilizing recipe features five times more often than previously.

While some online forums have raised concerns regarding AI inaccuracies, Rausch dismissed these as overrepresented. He stated that the number of users opting out of the service remains in the “low single digits.”

The company is also broadening its ecosystem by integrating services such as Angi, Expedia, Square, and Yelp, ensuring that the new web portal maintains the wide-ranging functionality users expect from the Alexa brand.
