Amazon Overhauls Fire TV Interface and Debuts Artline TVs

Amazon is launching a major overhaul of the Fire TV user experience, aiming to simplify navigation amidst an increasingly crowded landscape of streaming apps and content. The update, described by the company as its most significant in years, introduces a cleaner layout and improved performance, alongside the release of the new Ember Artline television series.

According to Aidan Marcuss, VP of Fire TV, the platform’s previous interface had become weighed down by the sheer volume of available content, leading to excessive searching. The redesigned software is engineered to be 20% to 30% faster on popular devices, focusing on getting users to their desired media with fewer clicks.

Refining the User Experience

The interface updates include visual changes such as rounded corners, consistent typography, and increased spacing. Navigation has been streamlined into primary categories—Movies, TV, Live TV, Sports, and News—located at the top of the screen. Additionally, the app pinning experience has been improved; users can now scroll through up to 20 app slots, a significant increase from the previous limit of six.

Users can also access a new control panel by long-pressing the Home button. This allows for quick adjustments to display settings, audio dialogue boosting, and even viewing smart home camera feeds, such as Ring, without leaving the current screen.

Integration of Alexa+

The update also integrates “Alexa+,” an AI-powered assistant that supports natural language queries. Users can ask nuanced questions, request recommendations based on visual context, or refine their search through follow-up conversations. Alexa+ is currently in an early access phase and will eventually be available as an add-on subscription or included with a Prime membership.

The rollout begins in February for the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen), and the Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series in the U.S. A broader release for other devices, including the Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen) and partner-manufactured TVs from brands like Hisense, Panasonic, and TCL, is scheduled for later this spring.
