Amazon Fire TV Adds AI Feature to Find Scenes via Alexa

Amazon is updating its Fire TV experience with a generative AI integration that allows users to navigate directly to specific movie moments. By simply describing a scene to Alexa+, viewers can bypass manual scrubbing and searching on the Prime Video platform.

Amazon Fire TV’s new AI feature lets you jump to scenes by describing them to Alexa+

How the AI Scene Navigation Works

The functionality relies on Amazon Bedrock, the company’s service for generative AI models. By utilizing large language models—including Anthropic Claude and Amazon Nova—the system processes visual data and movie captions to map out characters, actions, and dialogue.

Users can trigger the feature by providing descriptive commands, such as:

  • “Jump to the scene in Mamma Mia where Sophie sings ‘Honey Honey’”
  • “Jump to the scene where Deloris Jordan says ‘a shoe is just a shoe until my son steps into it’”
  • “Jump to the scene when John McClane says ‘come out to the coast, we’ll get together, have a few laughs’”
  • “Jump to the card scene in Love Actually”

Technical Capabilities and Limitations

According to Amazon, the system is sophisticated enough to identify a film even if the title is omitted from the request. The feature currently supports thousands of titles within the Prime Video library, encompassing tens of thousands of indexed scenes.

To utilize this tool, specific criteria must be met:

  • The content must be part of a Prime membership, or a title that has been rented or purchased on Prime Video.
  • The feature is currently limited to movies, though the company has stated intentions to incorporate TV shows in the future.
  • Amazon plans to continuously expand the database of indexed scenes and supported movie titles.

This development aligns with Amazon’s stated objective to reduce friction in content discovery, moving away from traditional search methods in favor of conversational AI commands.
