Amazon Launches $99 Eero Signal for Internet Backup
Amazon-owned eero has introduced a new hardware solution designed to eliminate downtime for home networks. The eero Signal, a 4G LTE device priced at $99.99, acts as an automatic cellular backup that activates the moment a primary internet connection fails.
The device is engineered for seamless integration, requiring only a connection to a compatible USB-C powered eero router equipped with Wi-Fi 6 or higher. When service is interrupted, the hardware automatically switches to a cellular network and reverts to standby mode once the main connection is restored.
Connectivity and Subscription Tiers
To manage cellular connectivity, the eero Signal utilizes a built-in multi-carrier eSIM. This allows the device to select the optimal network available, with support for major carriers such as AT&T and Verizon. Because the connection is used only during outages, eero has structured its subscription plans to be more affordable than traditional mobile data packages:
- Eero Plus: $99.99 annually, includes 10 GB of backup data.
- Eero Plus 100: $199.99 annually, includes 100 GB of backup data.
The company confirmed that both tiers offer discounted pricing for customers at the time of the device purchase. This failover system is specifically targeted at remote workers, users with connected security systems, and residents in regions where internet outages are frequent.
Future Roadmap
Looking ahead, eero plans to expand the capabilities of the Signal lineup. Later this year, a 5G-capable version of the hardware will be released for $199.99. Furthermore, the company intends to extend support for the device to customers currently utilizing eero Business plans.
