Android Update Lets You Share Lost Luggage Location With Airlines
Google has unveiled a significant update to the Android ecosystem, introducing a practical solution for travelers dealing with misplaced baggage. Starting now, users can leverage Find Hub-compatible tracker tags to provide airlines with real-time location data for lost items.
The process allows users to generate a secure, unique URL directly within the Find Hub app by selecting their missing item and choosing the “share item location” option. This link can then be submitted to participating airlines via their official websites or mobile apps, enabling staff to pinpoint the luggage’s whereabouts.
Airlines Participating in Baggage Recovery
To ensure user privacy, Google has implemented automatic expiration for these location links after seven days. Furthermore, the sharing function is disabled immediately once the device detects that the luggage has been reunited with the owner. Currently, more than 10 global carriers support this integration, including:
- Lufthansa Group (Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Swiss International Airlines)
- Turkish Airlines
- Scandinavian Airlines
- Air India
- China Airlines
- Saudia Airlines
- Ajet
Broader Android and Pixel Updates
Beyond luggage tracking, Google has bundled several improvements for Android and Pixel devices. Users can now share real-time locations directly within Google Messages and customize incoming call screens with “Calling Cards.” Additionally, the Google Play Store is introducing a feed of short-form videos to help users preview applications before downloading.
Pixel users, specifically, receive enhancements to the “Circle to Search” tool, including “Find the Look” for identifying outfits and a “Try It On” feature that simulates clothing appearances from social content or images. For Pixel Watch 3 owners, new gesture controls—such as double pinches or wrist turns—allow for hands-free management of calls, photos, and workout pauses.
The update also includes added security for phone locking when a linked Pixel Watch is out of range, alongside expanded capabilities for the “At a Glance” widget, which now supports real-time transit updates, live sports scores, and Google Finance alerts.
