X is tightening its policies regarding generative AI, announcing that creators who publish misleading AI-generated videos of armed conflicts without clear disclosure will face immediate financial penalties. The platform will remove these users from its Creator Revenue Sharing Program for a 90-day period.

Nikita Bier, head of product at X, confirmed the policy change on Tuesday. According to the new guidelines, repeat offenders who continue to share deceptive AI media once their initial suspension expires will face a permanent ban from the monetization program.

Combating Misinformation in Conflict Zones

The company stated that the move is intended to protect the integrity of information during sensitive geopolitical events. “During times of war, it is critical that people have access to authentic information on the ground,” Bier noted. “With today’s AI technologies, it is trivial to create content that can mislead people.”

To enforce these rules, X plans to utilize a two-pronged detection strategy:

• Proprietary tools specifically designed to identify generative AI content.
• The Community Notes system, which relies on crowdsourced fact-checking to flag inaccurate posts.

Scope of the Revenue Sharing Program

The Creator Revenue Sharing Program allows X Premium subscribers to earn a portion of advertising revenue generated by engagement on their posts. While the initiative was created to reward high-performing content, it has faced criticism from observers who argue the model encourages sensationalism and clickbait to drive traffic.

Despite this update, the platform’s new restriction remains narrow in scope. The policy currently only applies to AI-generated videos of armed conflict, leaving other areas where AI is frequently used—such as political misinformation or deceptive influencer marketing in the influencer economy—unaffected by these specific monetization bans.
