Apple Overhauls Liquid Glass Design With New Customization

Apple is addressing user feedback regarding its polarizing Liquid Glass design, announcing significant updates during the WWDC 2026 event on Monday. The company revealed that it is refining the aesthetic to improve readability across both iOS and MacOS platforms.

Introduced at last year’s developer conference, the Liquid Glass interface drew criticism from users who found the transparent, “glassy” elements difficult to navigate. In response, Apple is modifying the underlying architecture of the design to create better separation between content panels.

New User Controls

To accommodate varying user preferences, Apple is introducing a new slider within the settings menu. This tool allows individuals to adjust the Liquid Glass appearance, ranging from ultra-clear to fully tinted, ensuring that the interface remains functional for everyone.

During the presentation, the company emphasized that these changes are part of their standard iterative process following a major design shift. “Our team really appreciates your feedback, and we considered it deeply as we refined the new design over the past year,” Apple stated.

Refining the Ecosystem

In addition to the adjustable settings, the company is updating app icons across iOS and MacOS to achieve a more cohesive look. Developers are also being provided with the tools to implement these Liquid Glass customizations directly within their own applications at launch.

The commitment to these refinements was a focal point of the WWDC opening, signaling that Apple intends to balance its bold design vision with the practical usability needs of its user base.
