Apple Reports $1.4 Trillion in App Store Sales for 2025

Days before its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple released updated data on the performance of its App Store ecosystem. The company reports that the platform facilitated $1.4 trillion in billings and sales throughout 2025, marking an increase from the $1.3 trillion recorded in the previous year.

This massive figure encompasses all business conducted through applications on the platform, ranging from physical goods to digital services. By highlighting these numbers, the tech giant aims to illustrate the broad financial opportunities available to developers, while emphasizing that its own commission—typically applied to digital goods—represents a smaller fraction of the total economic volume.

According to Apple, 90% of the $1.4 trillion in total transactions occurred without the developer paying any commission to the company.

Breakdown of the Ecosystem

The total volume is categorized into specific revenue streams:

  • Physical goods and services: $1.1 trillion, covering retail, travel, ride-hailing, and grocery delivery.
  • Digital goods and services: $149 billion, a segment that typically incurs a 15% to 30% commission. This is an increase from the $131 billion reported in the previous year.
  • In-app advertising revenue: $151 billion, slightly up from $150 billion in 2024.

The platform also maintained a significant reach, averaging over 850 million weekly users across 175 countries and regions throughout 2025.

The Rise of AI and Regional Growth

Apple highlighted that artificial intelligence is becoming a primary driver of growth. Among the top 100 applications of 2025, 40 featured consumer-facing AI capabilities, which demonstrated stronger billing growth compared to other apps in the same tier. This trend arrives amid rumors that the company may soon allow AI agents on its store, alongside anticipated overhauls to Siri and broader AI integrations at WWDC.

Geographically, the ecosystem has shown rapid expansion. In the United States and Europe, billings and sales have more than tripled over the last six years. Meanwhile, in China, the figures have more than doubled during the same period.

The data was compiled by Analysis Group, a firm that has collaborated with Apple for several years to evaluate the economic impact of the App Store amid ongoing regulatory and legal scrutiny.
