CONTEUDO:

The volume of synthetic audio flooding streaming services has reached a new threshold. Deezer revealed on Monday that AI-generated tracks now account for 44% of all new music submitted to its platform, with daily intake hitting approximately 75,000 files.

Deezer says 44% of songs uploaded to its platform daily are AI-generated

This surge represents a rapid acceleration in synthetic content. As recently as January, the platform was recording 60,000 AI tracks per day. Growth has been consistent since the company first deployed its detection technology in January 2025, when daily uploads stood at just 10,000.

Impact on Streaming and Fraud Prevention

Despite the high volume of uploads, actual user engagement with AI content remains minimal, accounting for only 1% to 3% of total streams. Deezer noted that 85% of those streams are flagged as fraudulent and subsequently demonetized.

To maintain platform integrity, the company has implemented strict protocols:

  • Automatic removal of AI tracks from all algorithmic recommendations.
  • Exclusion of AI-generated content from editorial playlists.
  • Discontinuation of hi-res storage for AI-identified tracks.

“AI-generated music is now far from a marginal phenomenon and as daily deliveries keep increasing, we hope the whole music ecosystem will join us in taking action to help safeguard artists’ rights and promote transparency for fans,” said Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier in a press release. He added that the company’s proactive measures have successfully minimized payment dilution.

Consumer Perception and Industry Standards

The rise of synthetic music coincides with high-profile instances of AI tracks climbing global charts, including a recent song that reached the No. 1 spot on iTunes in several countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom. This visibility contrasts with the difficulties listeners face in identifying synthetic audio; an Ipsos survey conducted by Deezer last November found that 97% of participants could not distinguish between human-made music and fully AI-generated compositions.

Public opinion also leans toward stricter regulation. According to the same survey:

  • 52% of respondents believe AI-only songs should be barred from main charts.
  • 80% advocate for mandatory clear labeling of AI-generated content.

Deezer remains a pioneer in this transparency effort, having begun tagging AI tracks at the platform level in June 2025. By the end of 2025, the service had tagged over 13.4 million individual AI tracks. While other platforms like Spotify and Apple Music utilize varied filtering methods, smaller competitors like Qobuz have also recently moved to implement their own tagging systems for AI-generated content.
