The relentless demand for short-form video across platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube has left many creators struggling to balance output volume with quality. To address this, Jay Neo, a former content lead for MrBeast, has co-founded a new startup called Palo, designed to help creators streamline their ideation and analytical processes.

A Foundation Built on Retention

Neo, who began his career at MrBeast at age 18, spent years obsessively tracking viewer retention metrics. His work helped shape some of the most viral content on the internet, including the famous “baguette in Paris” video, which surpassed 1.8 billion views. After leaving the team in 2023 to launch his own “Creaky” branding, he began scaling channels to over a billion views per month by applying the same data-driven rigor.

To build Palo, Neo partnered with former Palantir engineer Shivam Kumar and creator Harry Jones. The startup has already secured $3.8 million in funding from investors including Peak XV’s Surge and NFX.

How Palo Works

The platform functions through three primary pillars: AI-driven ideation, content analytics, and a creator community. Once a creator integrates their social accounts, Palo analyzes their past performance to identify what resonates with their specific audience.

According to CTO Shivam Kumar, the tool uses a “cocktail of top LLMs” to extract data points regarding audience sentiment, hooks, and interest topics. This information is used to build a “persona” for each creator, ensuring the AI’s suggestions remain consistent with their unique style.

Market Entry and Strategy

Following a test phase with 40 creators, Palo is now available to those with at least 100,000 followers. The service starts at $250 per month, with tiered pricing based on usage.

Investor Josh Constine, who backed the startup, emphasizes that the platform aims to combat creator burnout. By automating the analysis of trends and strategies, creators can avoid the cycle of “brain-rotted” consumption that often leads to creative blocks.

While the industry remains divided on the role of AI in content creation, Neo maintains that Palo is intended to function like an iterative feedback loop for creators—similar to how a comedian tests material on stage to refine their performance.
