Figma Launches AI Agent for Automated Design Workflows

Figma is integrating its own artificial intelligence capabilities directly into its collaborative interface. The design platform has unveiled an AI agent designed to assist users with creative tasks through natural language commands, marking a significant step in the company’s push to bridge the gap between design and code.

Figma adds an AI assistant to its collaborative canvas

The new agent allows designers to generate fresh concepts, modify existing layouts, or automate repetitive production steps. According to the company, users can deploy multiple agents at once to handle various tasks simultaneously, streamlining workflows that previously required manual input.

Context-Aware Design Automation

Unlike general-purpose AI tools, Figma claims its assistant is powered by models specifically fine-tuned for design environments. This specialization allows the tool to maintain a deeper understanding of design elements and project contexts. The feature is currently rolling out within Figma Design, with plans to expand availability across the rest of the company’s product ecosystem in the future.

Loredana Crisan, Figma’s chief design officer, emphasized that the tool is intended to shift the focus of design teams toward high-level strategy. “As building software gets easier, what matters most is setting direction: deciding what to work on, how it should function, what the experience should feel like,” Crisan said in a statement. “Teams can now collaborate with agents on the multiplayer canvas to test out ideas, visualize edge cases, and refine concepts together without over-indexing on the more tedious parts.”

Building on AI Momentum

This launch follows a series of strategic moves by Figma to incorporate AI into its software. In recent months, the company established partnerships with Anthropic and OpenAI, integrating support for CLI tools like Claude Code and Codex. These integrations allow designers to access coding environments directly within their workspace.

Figma’s aggressive roadmap comes as it faces growing competition from several players in the design space, including:

  • Adobe
  • Canva
  • Flora
  • Krea
  • Dessn

Despite industry speculation regarding the impact of AI on the demand for professional design software, Figma has seen significant financial growth. The company reported $333.4 million in revenue for the first quarter of 2026, representing a 46% increase compared to the previous year. Alongside its AI developments, the company continues to bolster its platform, having acquired the node-based design tool Weavy last year and introducing new image-editing capabilities.
