Gamma Launches AI Image Tool to Challenge Canva and Adobe

Gamma, the AI-driven platform known for automating presentations and website creation, is expanding its capabilities with a new image-generation feature. Dubbed Gamma Imagine, the tool is designed to produce brand-specific visual content, marking a strategic move to compete directly with industry giants like Canva and Adobe.

The new functionality allows users to generate a wide array of visual assets through text prompts, including social media graphics, infographics, marketing materials, and interactive data visualizations. To support these features, the platform is pulling from a library of over 100 templates and integrating with third-party services such as ChatGPT, Claude, Zapier, Make, Atlassian, n8n, and Superhuman Go.

Addressing the “Underserved” Middle Market

According to Grant Lee, CEO and co-founder of Gamma, the decision to develop these tools stemmed from observing the diverse design needs of their early user base. “We realized that in the presentations they want to create, there was a variety of graphical design use cases,” Lee explained. “We worked alongside them to develop a new set of tools that allows them to go far beyond just the traditional presentation format.”

Lee positions Gamma as a solution for knowledge workers who require high-quality visual communication but lack the professional training for complex software like Figma or Adobe. By providing an AI-native alternative, the company aims to fill a void between legacy tools like Microsoft PowerPoint and professional-grade creative suites.

Growth and Market Valuation

The launch of Gamma Imagine follows a period of rapid expansion for the company. In November, Gamma secured $68 million in a Series B funding round led by a16z, reaching a valuation of $2.1 billion. At the time of that funding, the company reported an annual recurring revenue (ARR) of $100 million and a user base of 70 million. Recent data indicates the platform is now approaching 100 million users.
