Amazon Launches 1-Hour and 3-Hour Delivery Across the US

Amazon is aggressively expanding its logistics capabilities with the launch of new one-hour and three-hour delivery options across the United States. The move signals a direct challenge to instant-delivery incumbents such as Instacart, DoorDash, and Uber Eats, leveraging the company’s existing same-day fulfillment infrastructure.

The service covers an initial catalog of more than 90,000 items. Customers can identify eligible products by a specific label displayed within the Amazon app or website, which also features a dedicated filter to streamline search results for these expedited windows.

The delivery fees vary based on membership status and chosen timeframe:

  • Prime Subscribers: $9.99 for one-hour delivery; $4.99 for three-hour delivery.
  • Non-Prime Customers: $19.99 for one-hour delivery; $14.99 for three-hour delivery.

The one-hour service is currently rolling out across hundreds of U.S. cities, including major metropolitan hubs like Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, D.C., alongside locations such as Boise, Des Moines, and American Fork. The three-hour option has a broader footprint, reaching over 2,000 cities and towns nationwide. To centralize these offerings, Amazon has launched a dedicated storefront for eligible items.

Operational Strategy

Udit Madan, senior vice president of Worldwide Operations at Amazon, framed the expansion as a response to evolving consumer needs. “Our customers are busier than ever and are looking for new ways to save time while keeping their households running. We saw an opportunity to use our unique operational expertise and delivery network to help make customers’ lives a little easier while unlocking even more value for Prime members,” Madan stated.

This initiative follows a history of experimentation with rapid logistics. Amazon previously operated “Prime Now,” a one-hour service that launched in 2014 and was shuttered in 2021. More recently, the company tested 30-minute delivery pilots in Philadelphia and Seattle in late 2025.

The company’s push into quick-commerce is a global strategy. In 2024, it introduced “Amazon Now” in India, a 10-minute delivery service that has since expanded to multiple cities. A similar service was launched in the United Arab Emirates last October, promising delivery windows as short as 15 minutes.
