Google Fi Adds AI Audio and Enhanced RCS Messaging

Google has unveiled a series of upgrades for its Fi Wireless service, focusing on artificial intelligence-driven audio improvements and expanded connectivity features. The updates aim to refine call quality and modernize how subscribers manage their messaging and data connections.

AI-Powered Call Clarity

Beginning next month, Google Fi will introduce AI-enhanced audio functionality designed to suppress background noise and boost voice clarity. This feature is engineered to function during calls to landlines or older devices, aiming to create more natural-sounding interactions for all participants.

The system will be enabled by default, though Google has confirmed that users will maintain the ability to disable the feature through their settings if they prefer.

Messaging and Connectivity Upgrades

Google is also revamping its “Messages for web” integration. Launching in December, the new interface will provide full RCS support, allowing users to share high-resolution photos and videos directly within their browser-based message threads.

Furthermore, the carrier is scaling its Wi-Fi Auto Connect+ feature. This tool automatically transitions users to premium, secure Wi-Fi networks in high-traffic areas, such as major retail centers and airports including LAX, ORD, and JFK.

• Status Indicator: Subscribers can confirm active protection by identifying the “W+” icon in their device’s status bar.
• Cost: The service remains available at no additional charge to users.

Plan Management and Promotions

To assist with billing transparency, the Google Fi app is integrating AI-powered summaries. These will provide personalized breakdowns of monthly charges, explain specific account changes, and offer insights into how potential plan adjustments might impact future costs.

Alongside these technical updates, the company announced a promotional offer for new subscribers. Customers who bring their own device and join the “Unlimited Essentials” or “Unlimited” plans are eligible for a 50% discount for a 15-month period.

“We’re expanding availability of this feature to millions of locations,” said Jane Harnett, Senior Product Manager at Google Fi Wireless. “It works automatically, and it’s available at no extra cost.”
