Google Makes Personalized AI Image Generation Free in US
Google is expanding access to its advanced AI capabilities, announcing on Monday that the Gemini app now offers personalized, Nano Banana-powered image generation at no cost to all eligible users in the United States. Previously restricted to subscribers of the Plus, Pro, and Ultra tiers, this feature is now available to a significantly broader audience.
How Personalized Image Generation Works
First introduced in April, the feature utilizes Gemini’s “Personal Intelligence” to craft images that align with a user’s specific interests and preferences. By integrating data from connected Google services—including Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Search—the AI generates imagery without requiring exhaustive manual prompts.
For instance, users can now request an illustration of their “favorite things” without needing to list individual hobbies like coffee or baking. Gemini automatically synthesizes the user’s background data to produce relevant results. Furthermore, the tool can pull images directly from Google Photos, eliminating the need for manual uploads.

Privacy and Feature Control
Google has implemented the Personal Intelligence feature as an opt-in experience. Users maintain control over their data by selecting which specific apps Gemini can access. Once activated, the tool functions as a default setting for prompts, though it can be toggled off at any time via the Tools menu.
The company initially launched Personal Intelligence in March for US users, later expanding it to Japan and India. This update follows a series of recent announcements regarding the Gemini ecosystem, which include:
- The introduction of the “Daily Brief” feature.
- A revamped user interface for the mobile app.
- Integration of the Gemini Omni AI video model.
- The development of Gemini Spark, a new personal AI agent.
This expansion comes as Google’s AI chatbot continues to scale rapidly, having surpassed 750 million monthly active users earlier this year.
