Meta Targets AI Wearables Market With New Pendant Device

Meta is moving deeper into the hardware space with plans to develop an AI-powered pendant. According to an internal memo first reported by The Information, the company intends to begin testing the device within the next year.

Meta is reportedly developing an AI pendant

The project signals a strategic shift for the company’s Reality Labs division, which recorded a $4 billion loss during the first quarter of this year. By diversifying its hardware offerings, Meta aims to revitalize the unit’s financial performance.

Building on the Limitless Acquisition

The upcoming pendant appears to leverage technology gained through Meta’s acquisition of Limitless, an AI startup purchased at the end of 2025. Limitless previously developed a wearable pendant designed to be clipped to clothing or worn as a necklace to record and process user conversations.

At the time of the deal, Meta officials stated that the integration of the startup would help “accelerate our work to build AI-enabled wearables.”

Broadening the Hardware Ecosystem

Beyond the AI pendant, the internal documentation outlines a broader roadmap for Meta’s wearable ambitions:

  • Expansion of its existing AI glasses product line.
  • Introduction of a new business-focused subscription service titled “Wearables for Work.”

The industry has seen mixed results for AI wearables, with many early products struggling to gain traction due to privacy sensitivities and questions regarding their practical utility. Despite these challenges, major industry players remain committed to the category. TechCrunch has reached out to Meta for official comment on these hardware plans.
