Meta Upgrades Edits App With AI Assistant and Desktop Version

Creation, Artificial Intelligence

CONTEUDO:

Meta is significantly expanding the capabilities of its Edits video-editing application, introducing an AI-powered assistant and a desktop version to streamline creator workflows. The company previewed these upcoming features during an invite-only event for creators in Los Angeles this Wednesday.

The move represents a strategic push to bolster Edits, which launched last year as a direct rival to ByteDance’s CapCut. By providing tools that allow for more complex editing on larger screens and automated creative guidance, Meta aims to retain its user base while attracting new creators to the platform.

New AI-Powered Creative Tools

The forthcoming AI assistant is designed to serve as an on-platform strategist. By analyzing individual Instagram performance data—including view counts and video retention rates—the tool will offer personalized suggestions for future content, identify trending audio, and help creators brainstorm ideas. This integration aims to eliminate the need for third-party tools like ChatGPT, keeping creators fully engaged within the Meta ecosystem.

The assistant is currently being tested by attendees of the L.A. creator event. Its introduction follows a similar release for Facebook creators last week, aligning Meta’s capabilities with competitors such as YouTube Studio, which offers an “Inspiration” tab, and TikTok’s AI assistant.

Desktop Functionality and Expanded Analytics

The introduction of a desktop version of Edits will provide users with a larger workspace for advanced editing workflows, promising seamless synchronization between desktop and mobile devices. This addition directly challenges CapCut, which has long offered a desktop application.

Alongside these major updates, Meta is rolling out several other features effective today:

  • Beta Tab: Early access to experimental features, allowing creators to test new tools and provide direct feedback.
  • Enhanced Metrics: Deeper audience insights, including demographic breakdowns and peak engagement times.
  • Inspiration Feed: A search function for specific topics that highlights reels and templates currently driving trends.
  • A/B Testing: The ability to create multiple versions of a single video to determine which performs best before final publication.

While Meta has not disclosed total user figures for Edits, the company reports that content produced through the app achieves a 10% higher save rate and a 2% higher reshare rate compared to videos created elsewhere. Currently, over half of the users viewing Reels on Instagram interact with content created via Edits daily. The app remains free to download on iOS and Android.
