Netflix Expands Mobile App and Kids Gaming Across Asia

Netflix is accelerating its product strategy in the Asia-Pacific region, prioritizing a redesigned mobile interface and an expanded catalog for its children’s gaming hub. The details were unveiled during the company’s recent APAC Product Innovation Showcase.

The platform’s updated mobile experience is scheduled to hit Japan and South Korea this July. This rollout follows an initial launch earlier this year in Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, India, and Malaysia, marking a broader push to modernize the mobile viewing experience for global subscribers.

New Features for Vertical Discovery

Central to this mobile redesign is the “Clips” feature, a vertical video feed designed for rapid content consumption. This tool allows users to sample short-form highlights from the platform’s library, catering to viewers who want quick entertainment without committing to a full movie or television episode.

To further refine this experience, Netflix is preparing to test themed collections within the feed. These curated segments will organize short videos by specific genres, moods, or interests, potentially including:

  • Behind-the-scenes production footage
  • Highlights from popular podcasts
  • Memorable moments from reality television series

Gaming Expansion for Families

Netflix is also scaling its gaming division, specifically through Netflix Playground, a hub tailored for younger audiences. The platform plans to introduce new content based on the animated musical KPop Demon Hunters, which has become a major success for the streamer.

The expansion will feature six mini-games that allow users to engage with characters from the film. This move aims to capitalize on the title’s massive popularity, as it reached over 518 million views during its first six months of release. Netflix Playground, which debuted in April in regions including the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., remains a key pillar in the company’s effort to increase platform retention among families.
