Polymarket Accused of Paying Creators for Fake Bet Videos

Polymarket is facing scrutiny following allegations that the prediction market platform incentivized online content creators to produce deceptive videos. According to an investigation by The Wall Street Journal, these videos featured fabricated trades and winnings designed to lure users to the site.

Polymarket reportedly paid creators to post deceptive videos about fake bets

The Mechanics of the Alleged Deception

The investigation into the platform’s marketing tactics involved the analysis of 1,100 videos alongside internal instructional materials provided by the company to its influencers. Findings suggest that many creators utilized “near-perfect copies” of the actual Polymarket interface to simulate high-stakes betting success that never occurred in reality.

To maximize reach, these deceptive clips were reportedly amplified by a network of social media accounts managed by a third-party marketing contractor. Evidence suggests the company instructed participants to omit disclosures regarding their paid partnership status. These disclaimers, such as “@polymarket partner,” only began appearing in creator bios after media inquiries surfaced.

Influencer Perspectives and Company Response

Razeen Khan, a student and content creator who collaborated with the platform until March, defended the practice by comparing it to standard advertising tropes. Khan likened the staged videos to food commercials that enhance the appearance of products, stating, “We’re depicting what actually happens.”

In response to the report, Polymarket issued a statement emphasizing its commitment to maintaining “accurate, fair, and transparent markets.” The company further indicated that it intends to launch an audit of its promotional content to address the concerns raised by the investigation.
