Ring Expands ‘Search Party’ Tool to Non-Camera Owners

Ring is broadening the reach of its “Search Party” tool, an artificial intelligence feature designed to locate missing dogs. Starting now, the service is accessible to all users across the United States, effectively removing the requirement that a person must own a Ring camera to utilize the technology.

Introduced in the fall, the system functions through the Search Party interface. When a user reports a pet as missing via the Neighbors app, the platform triggers nearby outdoor cameras to scan for potential visual matches using AI. If the system detects a likely candidate, the camera owner receives a notification. From there, they can review the footage and decide whether to share the clip with the pet owner, or contact them directly via the app without exposing their personal phone number.

Community-Driven Pet Recovery

The company reports that the technology has successfully reunited more than one dog per day since its initial rollout. By opening the feature to individuals who do not have hardware installed, Ring aims to increase the density of the search network.

“Now, pet owners can mobilize the whole community—and communities are empowered to help—to find lost pets more effectively than ever before,” said Ring founder Jamie Siminoff in an official statement. He emphasized that the decision to expand access stems from the desire to make the tool available to anyone who utilizes the Neighbors platform to post about a lost animal.

Expanding Support for Animal Shelters

Beyond software updates, the Amazon-owned company is investing $1 million to provide Ring camera systems to animal shelters. The initiative targets approximately 4,000 shelters across the U.S. with the goal of integrating these facilities into the broader Ring network to improve recovery rates for strays.

This move complements existing collaborations with organizations like Best Friends Animal Society and Petco Love. The company has indicated it remains open to further partnerships to enhance its pet-finding capabilities.
