Snapchat Launches AI Clips to Transform Photos into Video
Snapchat is expanding its augmented reality capabilities with the introduction of AI Clips, a new format within Lens Studio. This feature enables developers to create effects that convert a single user-uploaded photo into a five-second video animation.
How AI Clips Function
Unlike general-purpose text-to-video generators, AI Clips operate through a “closed-prompt” system. Lens creators define the creative parameters, and users then apply these effects to their own images. For instance, a developer could build a Lens that places a user in a red-carpet scenario based on a single portrait.
The platform aims to streamline the development process, allowing creators of all experience levels to generate and publish these AI-powered Lenses within minutes. This workflow is integrated directly into the GenAI Suite in Lens Studio, eliminating the need for third-party software.
Monetization and Availability
The company highlighted the unique positioning of this tool, noting in a blog post that it is the first market offering to combine closed-prompt video generation with direct photo input, distribution, and monetization features.

- Creator Revenue: Developers participating in the Lens+ Payouts program can earn money from the AI Clips they produce.
- Subscription Access: The feature is currently available to users subscribed to Lens+, a service priced at $8.99 per month that provides exclusive access to advanced AR experiences.

The move follows a milestone year for the platform, which reported that users generated nearly two trillion Snaps in 2025—an average of 63,000 Snaps per second.
