Snapchat Launches AI-Powered Conversational Ads

Snapchat is transforming its advertising strategy by introducing “AI Sponsored Snaps,” a new format that enables users to engage in direct conversations with brand-operated AI agents. The feature, announced on Tuesday, integrates these interactive ads directly into the app’s primary Chat tab.

Previously, Sponsored Snaps functioned as static ad placements within the messaging interface. This update shifts the dynamic, allowing users to initiate dialogues, request product recommendations, and pose questions to brands in real time.

Ajit Mohan, chief business officer at Snap, noted that the evolution of advertising is increasingly centered on conversation. “AI is accelerating that shift, turning chat into the place where people discover products, ask questions, and make decisions in real time,” Mohan stated in a company blog post. He emphasized that the goal is to create ad formats that mirror the natural way users already communicate.

Driving Engagement Through Conversational AI

The move targets Snapchat’s massive user base of nearly one billion monthly active users. By allowing brands to deploy custom AI agents, the platform aims to bridge the gap between simple ad exposure and active consumer engagement. Performance data suggests a strong foundation for this shift, as current Sponsored Snaps already report:

  • 22% higher conversion rates compared to traditional formats.
  • Nearly 20% lower cost per action for advertisers.

Snapchat justifies the integration by citing high activity levels within its messaging ecosystem. The company reported that 85% of its user base engages regularly with the Chat feed. Furthermore, the volume of interaction is significant, with over 950 billion chats sent during the first quarter of 2026 alone.

Among the platform’s younger demographic, the habit of messaging is deeply ingrained. Data indicates that 57% of teen Snapchat users communicate via the app daily, with four out of every 10 users messaging multiple times throughout the day.

While the company acknowledges that some users may be hesitant toward the expansion of AI into additional areas of the app, Snap remains optimistic about adoption. The firm points to the success of its own AI chatbot, which has been utilized by more than half a billion users since its debut in 2023, as evidence that its community is prepared for more AI-driven interactions.
