Sony says PlayStation Plus members will get five-day extension after outage

Details of the Service Disruption

The technical issues began on Friday evening and persisted through Saturday evening in the United States. During this period, the PlayStation Network experienced a major wave of instability. Data from Downdetector indicates that user reports of connectivity problems reached their highest point around midday Saturday on the East Coast.

Recovery and Compensation

Official communication regarding the restoration of services arrived via the Ask PlayStation account on X. The company confirmed the resolution of the incident through two key updates:

  • At 7 p.m., Sony announced that the PlayStation Network had been restored.
  • Five hours later, the company clarified that all network services had fully recovered from what it termed an “operational issue.”

Addressing the impact on its user base, the company issued a formal statement: “We apologize for the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience. All PlayStation Plus members will automatically receive an additional 5 days of service.”

Users can expect this credit to be applied automatically to their accounts without the need for manual redemption, as the company works to mitigate the frustration caused by the downtime.
