Spotify to Reserve Concert Tickets for Top Fans
Spotify is rolling out a new initiative to secure concert tickets for an artist’s most dedicated listeners. By prioritizing users who demonstrate high engagement through streaming habits and social sharing, the platform seeks to ensure that tickets reach genuine fans rather than ticket scalpers.
Starting this summer, the streaming giant will begin reserving tickets for select artists as they announce new tours, with plans to scale the program across various tour sizes in the future.

How the Selection Process Works
While Spotify has not disclosed the exact metrics required to qualify as a “real fan,” the company confirmed that it analyzes various user signals, including stream counts and sharing activity. To maintain the integrity of the system, the platform will actively monitor for the use of bots or AI agents intended to artificially inflate these statistics.
The company noted in a blog post: “There will be significantly more superfans than there are seats available on a tour, so not every fan will receive an offer. And by only inviting validated fans, we will help ensure more tickets will go straight to fans instead of scalpers.”
Accessing the Tickets
For fans who qualify, the process involves a specific set of requirements:
- Eligibility is restricted to users aged 18 or older based in the U.S.
- Selected fans will receive an email and an in-app notification granting them the opportunity to purchase up to two tickets.
- Purchases must be made within a dedicated window, typically lasting around 24 hours.
- Users are encouraged to keep location settings and live event alerts enabled to receive notifications.
Spotify acts as a facilitator in this process, meaning the actual transaction occurs on a partner’s website. Once an offer is extended, eligible users can choose their preferred tour date, location, and seat options, subject to availability.
This move follows a series of efforts by Spotify to deepen its presence in the live music space. After experimenting with direct ticket sales in 2022, the company shifted toward a partner model, reporting that it has already facilitated over $1.5 billion in ticket sales for artists to date.
