Spotify Adds ElevenLabs AI Tool for Audiobook Creation
Spotify is expanding its commitment to automated content production by introducing an AI-driven tool for audiobook creation. Unveiled during the company’s Investor Day, the feature leverages ElevenLabs’ voice technology to allow writers to self-publish audiobooks directly through the Spotify for Authors platform.

The new functionality is scheduled to enter a beta phase this June. Access will initially be restricted to an invite-only group and will support English-language content exclusively at launch. Crucially, Spotify confirmed that authors using this AI tool will not be subject to exclusivity agreements, granting them the freedom to distribute their audiobooks on other platforms.
Deepening the ElevenLabs Partnership
This development marks a significant evolution in the existing collaboration between Spotify and ElevenLabs. Previously, the partnership allowed authors to upload audiobooks generated on the ElevenLabs platform to Spotify. By integrating the technology directly into Spotify for Authors, the company aims to provide creators with access to more expressive, human-like voice models.
The move follows previous efforts by Spotify to incorporate digitally narrated content, such as its existing partnership with Google Play Books. ElevenLabs, which launched its own self-publishing suite for authors in 2025, remains a central pillar in Spotify’s strategy to enhance its audio production capabilities.
Broader Platform Growth and International Reach
Beyond the new AI tool, Spotify is scaling its infrastructure for creators and listeners alike:
- Language Support: The Spotify for Authors platform is adding support for 10 languages, including French, Canadian French, German, Dutch, Latin American Spanish, Swedish, Finnish, Icelandic, Danish, and Norwegian.
- Subscription Plans: The Audiobook+ plans are set to expand this year, with upcoming options tailored for students and families, alongside increased listening limits.
- Discovery Features: Users will gain the ability to use natural language queries for audiobook discovery, and the company plans to integrate prompt-based playlist creation for audiobooks later this summer.
Spotify’s push into the audiobook market has yielded measurable results. The company reports a current catalog of 700,000 titles and claims a 60% year-on-year increase in listening hours. With over one million subscriptions to its Audiobook+ tier, the segment is currently on pace to reach $100 million in annualized recurring revenue. According to the company, more than 50% of its current audiobook audience began engaging with the format within the last year.
