Spotify is rolling out a series of updates designed to provide listeners with a deeper look at the creative forces behind their favorite music. Starting Wednesday, the platform is expanding its credit system to offer more visibility for producers, songwriters, engineers, and background vocalists.

The company is moving beyond simple track listings by introducing interactive tools that map out the collaborative web of the music industry. This update is part of a broader push to connect users with the people and inspirations that shape the tracks they stream.

Exploring SongDNA and Collaborative Links

A major highlight of this update is the upcoming “SongDNA” feature. Originally identified in app code by researcher Jane Manchun Wong, this tool functions as an interactive hub for music discovery. It allows users to:

• Identify sampled tracks within a song, powered by the WhoSampled database.
• See a list of artists who have covered the track.
• Explore other projects involving the specific songwriters and musicians who worked on the song.

Contextualizing Music with “About the Song”

Beyond technical credits, Spotify is introducing an “About the Song” feature. This will appear as a series of swipeable cards in the “Now Playing” interface. These cards provide background on the cultural impact and inspiration behind a track, pulling information from third-party sources like Wikipedia and various news outlets.

This functionality serves as a broader successor to the company’s previous collaboration with Genius, which provided similar insights but was restricted to the lyrics site’s internal database. The new system is designed to link users to a wider variety of external informational resources.

The expanded credit features are launching on mobile devices immediately, with desktop support arriving in the coming months. Users should note the following regarding access:
