Stingray Group Acquires Radio Streamer TuneIn for $175M
Stingray Group has announced the acquisition of the internet radio platform TuneIn in a deal valued at $175 million. The transaction involves an initial payment of $150 million at closing, with an additional $25 million contingent payment scheduled for one year later.

To fund the purchase, the Montreal-based music and technology firm utilized a loan under its renewed credit facility. The acquisition price reflects a valuation based on TuneIn’s projected performance, specifically forecasted sales of $110 million and an adjusted EBITDA of $30 million for the 12-month period concluding December 31, 2025.
Strategic Expansion for Stingray
For Stingray, which already manages a portfolio of radio stations alongside music technology and advertising services, the move is designed to broaden its market presence. The company plans to capitalize on TuneIn’s extensive distribution network, which currently supports over 75 million monthly active listeners globally.
Key assets driving the acquisition include:
- Presence on more than 200 platforms and connected devices.
- Integration into over 50 in-car audio systems.
- Operational reach spanning more than 100 countries.
A Shift in the Audio Landscape
Established in 2002, TuneIn carved out a unique niche by streaming traditional radio stations, distinguishing itself from on-demand giants like Spotify or Apple Music. While its platform provided access to live sports, news, and talk radio, the company faced mounting pressure as listener habits migrated toward podcasts and ad-free, subscription-based models.
Despite previously commanding a valuation of approximately $500 million during its peak, TuneIn struggled to maintain its competitive edge in a saturated streaming market. Following the acquisition, Stingray has confirmed that the TuneIn brand will continue to operate. The integration is expected to push Stingray’s total revenue beyond the $400 million mark once the deal is finalized.
The company officially confirmed the details of the agreement on Wednesday, marking a significant consolidation in the digital audio industry.
