Texas Sues Roblox Over Child Safety Concerns

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton launched a legal challenge against the popular gaming platform Roblox late Thursday. The lawsuit accuses the company of misleading parents regarding the platform’s safety and failing to implement adequate protections for its millions of minor users.

In his filing, Paxton claimed that Roblox prioritizes corporate profit over the well-being of children, effectively allowing the platform to function as a “breeding ground for predators.” He explicitly labeled the environment as one that favors “pixel pedophiles,” demanding stronger accountability for the company.

Legal Pressure and Industry Scrutiny

“We cannot allow platforms like Roblox to continue operating as digital playgrounds for predators,” Paxton stated. He warned that any entity enabling child abuse would face the “full and unrelenting force of the law,” calling for more robust measures to shield children from malicious actors.

This action in Texas adds to a growing list of legal challenges facing the platform. Similar lawsuits have been initiated by attorneys general in Louisiana and Kentucky, alongside various cases filed across California, Pennsylvania, and Texas. The company has faced consistent scrutiny from regulators regarding:

• The exposure of minors to predatory grooming.
• The presence of violent or abusive material.
• Inadequate implementation of safety protocols.

Global Regulatory Landscape

The lawsuit arrives as governments worldwide move toward stricter digital oversight. Legislative bodies are increasingly mandating age-verification systems, such as the U.K.’s Online Safety Act and various state-level initiatives in the U.S., including those in Arizona, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Virginia.

Roblox’s Defense and Current Safety Measures

As of September 30, 2025, Roblox reported 151.5 million daily active users. In response to the mounting criticism, the company has deployed several technological safeguards, including:

• An age-estimation system utilizing facial analysis of selfies.
• Standardized content and maturity labels.
• An AI system designed to preemptively detect child endangerment signals.
• Enhanced parental controls and communication restrictions.

Roblox issued a statement expressing disappointment with the lawsuit, characterizing the allegations as “misrepresentations and sensationalized claims.” A company spokesperson maintained that Roblox is committed to child safety, noting that they prohibit image and video sharing in chats and utilize both automated filters and trained human teams to monitor for harmful content.

“We are disappointed that, rather than working collaboratively with Roblox on this industry-wide challenge and seeking real solutions, the AG has chosen to file a lawsuit,” the spokesperson added.
