TikTok Unveils Aggressive New Ad Formats for Brands

TikTok is expanding its advertising ecosystem with a series of high-impact formats designed to capture user attention the moment they open the application. The platform announced these updates on Tuesday, signaling a shift toward more prominent brand visibility within its interface.

Among the most notable additions is the “Logo Takeover.” This feature displays a brand’s logo alongside the TikTok emblem on the launch page during the app’s opening sequence. The company positions this as a method for advertisers to signal partnership and cultural relevance immediately upon user entry.

Strategic Storytelling and Reach

TikTok is also introducing “Prime Time,” a format that enables brands to deploy three sequential advertisements to a single user within a 15-minute window. This tool is intended to facilitate continuous brand storytelling, particularly during live events or periods of high platform activity.

For advertisers prioritizing broad exposure, the new “Top Reach” format integrates two existing placements: TopView—the first ad seen upon opening the app—and TopFeed, the primary in-feed advertisement in the For You section. By merging these, TikTok claims brands can maximize their daily audience reach through high-visibility slots.

Reframing Ad Disruption

While these formats offer increased visibility, they represent a more intrusive approach to advertising compared to previous standard placements. However, leadership at the company defends the strategy, arguing that these ads align with the platform’s role in cultural discourse.

“TikTok is where people go to see what everyone is talking about right now,” said Khartoon Weiss, VP, GM, Global Business Solutions at TikTok. “Big cultural moments show up on TikTok first, but so do the everyday things people share with each other. That means brands are not interrupting people — they are joining the conversation.”

Weiss added that the platform’s differentiation lies in how ads integrate with existing user interests, whether through creator content, search results, or live shopping moments.

Expanding the Pulse Suite

In addition to the new visual formats, TikTok is upgrading its Pulse suite:

  • Pulse Mentions: A tool that places brand advertisements alongside user-generated discussions about that specific brand or its product category.
  • Pulse Tastemakers: A feature allowing brands to align their ad campaigns with a curated selection of eligible creators on the platform.
