Spotify Launches SongDNA to Reveal Hidden Music Connections
Spotify has officially kicked off the global rollout of SongDNA, an interactive feature designed to help listeners map the complex relationships behind their favorite tracks. The tool, which is currently in beta, is available to Premium subscribers on both iOS and Android platforms.
By moving beyond standard artist information, the feature provides a deeper look at the architecture of a song. Users can now trace various elements, including:
- Detailed lists of songwriters, producers, and engineers involved in a project.
- Information regarding samples and interpolations used in the production.
- A history of covers and alternative versions of the same composition.
- Collaborative projects linking different artists together.

Expanding the “About the Song” Experience
This initiative builds upon the existing “About the Song” feature, aiming to provide greater transparency and recognition for those working behind the scenes. For industry professionals, it serves as a networking tool, making it easier to identify producers, engineers, and collaborators.
Jacqueline Ankner, Spotify’s head of Songwriter & Publisher Partnerships, stated that the goal is to provide “meaningful recognition” for creators. “By bringing collaborators, samples, and covers together in one place, we’re making it easier for fans to discover new music and see how songs connect and come to life,” Ankner said.
Industry Context and Development
The foundation of this data relies partly on WhoSampled, the community-driven database acquired by Spotify last year. This move places Spotify in direct competition with platforms like TIDAL, which already offers interactive credits to highlight song contributors.
Development of SongDNA was first signaled last October when reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong discovered early references to the feature within the app’s code. Spotify officially confirmed the project’s development the following month, targeting an early 2026 release.
The global rollout is currently underway, with the company expecting the feature to be fully available to all Premium users by the end of April.
