Chip Cooling Startup Frore Hits $1.64B Valuation
Frore Systems, a semiconductor startup specializing in advanced thermal management, has officially reached unicorn status. The company announced on Monday that it secured $143 million in a Series D funding round, bringing its total valuation to $1.64 billion.

The latest investment round was led by MVP Ventures and included participation from notable backers such as Fidelity, Mayfield, Addition, Qualcomm Ventures, and Alumni Ventures. With this injection of capital, the eight-year-old firm has now raised a total of $340 million since its inception.
From Mobile Cooling to AI Infrastructure
While Frore does not manufacture semiconductors itself, it plays a critical role in the hardware ecosystem by engineering liquid-cooling systems designed to optimize chip performance. The company was founded by two former Qualcomm engineers with an initial focus on developing air-cooling solutions for fanless mobile devices.
The company’s strategic shift toward high-performance AI hardware was heavily influenced by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. After receiving a private demonstration of the technology approximately two years ago, Huang encouraged the team to expand into liquid-cooling solutions—a segment now considered essential for the power-hungry infrastructure driving the artificial intelligence boom.
Following this pivot, Frore successfully developed thermal management products compatible with boards and chips from major industry players, including:
- Nvidia
- Qualcomm
- AMD
A Competitive Landscape
The announcement arrives amid a surge of capital flowing into the semiconductor sector. Investors are increasingly prioritizing infrastructure that supports large-scale AI deployment, leading to several recent high-profile valuations:
- Recursive Intelligence: Recently achieved a $4 billion valuation.
- Positron: Reached unicorn status with a $1 billion valuation in February.
- Eridu: Recently secured a $200 million Series A round to develop AI networking chips.
As AI chips continue to generate record-breaking heat, Frore’s thermal stack technology has positioned the company as a foundational player in the current AI hardware race.
