Oura Acquires Gesture-Tech Startup Doublepoint
Oura has officially acquired Doublepoint, a Helsinki-based startup specialized in gesture recognition software. The deal, for which financial terms remain undisclosed, marks a strategic step toward integrating hands-free control into Oura’s lineup of wearable devices.

Advancing Wearable AI
Doublepoint’s core technology utilizes a blend of biometric data and artificial intelligence to interpret subtle hand movements. By incorporating these capabilities, Oura aims to create more intuitive user interfaces that function seamlessly in the background of daily life.
The company views this acquisition as a catalyst for its next generation of ambient AI experiences. Oura stated that the future of its wearables will rely on a hybrid approach, combining voice commands with physical gestures to improve how users interact with their devices.
Integration of Talent and Vision
As part of the agreement, the entire team of AI architects and builders from Doublepoint, including the startup’s four founders, will join Oura. These engineers are expected to play a critical role in developing the software features that will define future product iterations.
“Doublepoint’s tech helps devices understand small hand movements, so interactions feel faster and more natural across different interfaces,” Oura noted in a press release.
Oura CEO Tom Hale emphasized that the acquisition aligns with the company’s growth strategy. “Welcoming the Doublepoint team into Oura strengthens our bench with world-class talent, reinforces our long-term commitment to growing in Finland, and helps us move even faster to deliver intuitive, human-first experiences,” Hale said.
Market Growth and Context
The acquisition arrives during a period of rapid expansion for Oura and the broader smart ring industry:
- Market Leadership: According to data from IDC, global smart ring shipments grew by nearly 51% in 2025, with Oura currently leading the category.
- Sales Milestones: To date, Oura has sold 5.5 million rings, up from 2.5 million in June 2024.
- Financial Outlook: The company, which was valued at approximately $11 billion last fall, projects its sales to surpass $1.5 billion by 2026.
This transaction is the fourth acquisition for the company. Oura has previously integrated technology from health-tracking firm Sparta Science, metabolic health startup Veri, and the digital identity company Proxy.
