Titan OS Raises $58M to Transform Smart TV Advertising
Titan OS, the Barcelona-based developer of smart TV operating systems, has secured €50 million ($58 million) in a Series A funding round. The investment was led by Highland Europe, with additional support from Mangrove Capital Partners, marking a significant milestone for the startup as it looks to reshape how television manufacturers monetize their hardware.
Founded in 2023, the startup is led by a team of industry veterans including Jacinto Roca, Timothy Edwards, Miquel Barba, and Tobias Pfalzgraff. Roca previously established the streaming platform Wuaki.tv, which was later acquired by Rakuten. The company currently employs 200 people across offices in Barcelona, Amsterdam, and Taipei.

Shifting Profit Models in Hardware
As competition intensifies in the television market, manufacturers often face thin margins on hardware sales. Titan OS provides an alternative revenue stream by enabling brands to monetize the “lifetime value” of a user through integrated advertising and content partnerships.
According to COO Timothy Edwards, the industry is undergoing a fundamental transition. “It used to be the case that hardware manufacturers made most of their profit from selling the device itself. But now, some hardware manufacturers that have their own operating system make more profit from ongoing content and advertising revenues than they do from actually selling the hardware,” Edwards stated.
Market Reach and Strategy
Titan OS currently supports 18 million users, primarily across Latin America and Europe, through partnerships with manufacturers like Philips and JVC. The platform integrates a mix of:
- Broadcast television
- Subscription-based streaming applications
- FAST (free ad-supported television) channels
Beyond traditional ads, the company utilizes “shoppable ads,” where viewers can scan QR codes to complete purchases directly from their screens. This focus on monetization has contributed to a reported 10x revenue growth over the last two years.
Laurence Garrett, a partner at Highland Europe, noted that the firm’s interest in Titan OS stemmed from its successful experience with similar models, such as WeTransfer. “With Titan OS, there is the beauty of the advertising model on top of the actual core OS,” Garrett explained, emphasizing that the company’s European roots provide a distinct advantage in navigating local market nuances.
Future Expansion
The new capital will be directed toward scaling sales and product teams, as well as developing new advertising projects and partnerships. With over 100 channels now available in its core markets, Titan OS intends to further localize its offerings to compete with rivals like Whale TV and Xperi’s TiVo. The startup plans to maintain this growth trajectory with the goal of securing additional funding in the coming year.
