YouTube Launches First Personalized Video Recap Feature
YouTube is officially entering the year-end recap competition. The platform announced on Tuesday the rollout of a new feature that provides users with a personalized summary of their video consumption throughout the year, marking the first time the main service has offered such an experience.
The new tool generates up to 12 custom-designed cards for each user. These summaries dive into specific viewing metrics, including favorite channels, changes in consumption patterns, and assigned personality types based on individual preferences.

Understanding Your Viewing Personality
The feature assigns users a “personality type” based on their interaction history. Categories include:
- Skill Builder: For those focused on educational or tutorial-based content.
- Sunshiners: Users who primarily engage with uplifting and positive videos.
- Trailblazers: Viewers who prioritize original content that challenges conventional standards.
- Other types: Including the “Wonder Seeker,” the “Connector,” and the “Dreamer.”
While the new Recap covers general video content, users interested in their specific music listening habits can still access the YouTube Music Recap, which began distribution last week. Both experiences are accessible via mobile and desktop, with the new video-focused Recap appearing directly on the YouTube homepage or within the “You” tab.
Availability and Industry Context
Starting today, the feature is available to users across North America, with a global rollout scheduled for later this week. According to YouTube, the launch follows direct feedback from the community and involved over 50 concept tests to refine the user experience.
Simultaneously, the platform released its annual trend charts, confirming that MrBeast has secured the top creator spot for the sixth consecutive year. In other categories, “The Joe Rogan Experience” led the podcast charts, while the song “Die with a Smile” by Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga claimed the number one position.
The timing of this release places YouTube in direct competition with other major streaming services. Apple Music’s Replay and Amazon Music’s 2025 Delivered also launched today, while users continue to await the release of Spotify Wrapped.
